***The Conversation***

***What does it feel like to know that someone is reading your work?***

> *It is totally surreal to think that someone is out there reading my book, but it is also rewarding as writing a book is something I have wanted to do for many years. It also makes you more aware of how the story may affect some people and receiving feedback has helped me to understand that readers bring their own interpretation to your work.*

***Have you ever received a message or reaction from a reader that stayed with you?***

> *Yes, one reader said she had experienced being a refugee and had found the book moving. She expressed that the writing had touched her personally and encouraged me to write more. You cannot ask for a better reaction.*

***Do you think about your readers while writing, or only after?***

> *Since writing my first book I have begun to think about my readers more while writing. In *The Refugee* I often wrote from the perspective of different characters and some readers found it difficult to move from one point of view to another. In my second book I have now used my chapter headings to sign post the transitions. I am hoping this will make my writing clearer.*

***Has being read changed the way you see your own work?***

> *When I am writing the main story line I tend to just let the ideas flow and see where the story takes me. I do not start off with a definite plan. On the second draft I tend to look more at the structure and ensuring the meaning is clear and it all makes sense. The way I see my work has changed since the publication of my debut novel. I do see my writing as an integral part of my life now rather than something I do in my spare time. I try to make more time for it and I prioritize my creativity.*

***What do you hope readers take with them after finishing your book?***

> *Escaping into a book is one of the most wonderful experiences I can think of and, as an avid reader myself, I want my readers to immerse themselves in the worlds I create. When they have finished, I hope that they have enjoyed the story and found the characters believable and real. If the book has made them stop and think that is a bonus.*

***A Gentle Invitation***

If these reflections resonate with you, consider the quiet connection that forms between writer and reader; one built on trust, imagination, and shared emotion. Every story becomes something new in the hands of the person reading it, and your experience as a reader is part of that journey.
