About the Author:

Donna Joppie has been creating worlds all her life — through painting, interior design, photography, and now, fiction. But it is writing that captured her heart most deeply. Born in South Louisiana as one of seven siblings, she grew up surrounded by rich culture, tight-knit community, and stories waiting to be told.

Her debut thriller, The Memory Trap, earned a Reader Views Five-Star Review and the International Five Impact Book Award for Best in Mystery/Thriller/Suspense. Her follow-up novel, Blood Favors, has been met with equally enthusiastic praise.

After traveling the world, Donna and her husband Rick chose the Texas Hill Country as home — a peaceful backdrop for crafting gripping mysteries rooted in atmosphere, tension, and emotional depth.

What Inspires Donna's Writing

Donna’s love for uncovering the truth began as a child, watching mystery shows with her father and solving cases before the first commercial break. That instinct, paired with her fascination for human nature and justice, fuels her storytelling.

She didn’t begin writing seriously until after raising her children, but once she did, she poured decades of insight and imagination into the Rob Chambers series.

Her second book draws from her Louisiana roots — inspired by the river communities where her father worked and the Cajun cultures she grew up with. She weaves those memories into dark secrets, dangerous alliances, and characters who must navigate loyalty, fear, and survival.

About Blood Favors

In the aftermath of Hurricane Betsy in 1965, a new disaster quietly grips New Orleans: two powerful crime syndicates form a deadly alliance, leaving a trail of unexplained deaths.

Rob Chambers — a former attorney turned government witness — is pulled back into a world he thought he escaped. Teaming up with his FBI handler, he races through South Louisiana swamps and Cajun enclaves to uncover the truth and protect the next target.

As ruthless killers close in, Rob must learn who to trust in a world where nothing is as it seems, and where the past never truly lets go.

Read an Excerpt

New Orleans
Spring of 1967
Dense clouds and constant rain sucked the color from the Crescent City
coastline, leaving it a sickening gray. A slow-moving tanker stacked
high with containers slipped past Jackson Square virtually unnoticed as
residents went about their day, unaware of the tortured souls trapped inside
the vessel.
High in the ship’s wheelhouse, the captain nodded to a leather-faced
man a few feet away.
The man left the wheelhouse, went to a remote section in the ship’s bowels, removed a large duffel bag from a locker, and carried it to a metal door at
the back of the vessel. He released the bolt on the door, tossed the bag into
the room, and stepped in.
Four Hispanic men jumped from cots and backed away as the man
approached.
