Maybe it was Jas that didn’t want her there? Whatever it was, she had permission to go and was cracking under the uncomfortable look that Stephanie was giving her. “Never mind, I know where it’s at. I’ll just go; I’ll be right back.” > Kaylie slipped backstage, pulling up the tile and utility hatch by the back entrance. A bit of excitement ran through her about finally seeing the wonders behind the unusual door. She hurried down the tunnel, like a child abound with alacrity on Christmas morning. > The antique knob looked out of place on the modern door. Maybe the welcome mat was some sort of inside joke for the tech crew? > She turned the handle. > Her eyes gazed from flat screen T.V. mounted on the wall, to Jas sitting on a couch. His mouth was wrapped around the wrist of a young woman asleep at his side. A trickle of blood ran down the young woman’s slender arm. > Jas’ eyes snapped up to meet hers, his lips covered in crimson." --- ***Another Glimpse into Odeum*** The world of ***Odeum*** is more than danger and blood. ***E.A. Logan*** also takes readers beneath the surface, literally, into a hidden vampire community where an entire society exists beyond the human world. > The group came to an open area half the size of a football field. A small group of dwellings were clustered around the culvert's supports. Some houses were no bigger than a living room, hosting a portable shower and a counter. Others had a second level. Each building was a patchwork of plywood and other materials, spray painted with colorful murals. > The community was alive and functioning as any small town would. Some vampires sat at carts to sell goods like a bazaar. Strings of lights ran from atop tall poles, shop-to-shop, like a canopy of stars. The vendors watched them curiously. > Kaylie could feel their stare. She caught up with Jas, sticking next to him. If she didn't feel in constant danger under the eyes of those around her, she would have been mesmerized by the sights of the underground municipality. > Dozens of lights hung down from the concrete ceiling, strings of lanterns crisscrossed from building to building. An elaborate network of water pipes and well-organized cabling snaked above the town, partially hidden by the lights. In certain spots the pipes and cables ran down the walls, feeding into the small buildings of the town. Grates to covered drains set into the concrete floor. > A small building, labelled "Laundr-o-Mat" showed several washers and dryers through the front window. A few people sat waiting for their laundry. Another building had "Blud-Bank" crudely painted on its shotty, ply-wood facade. Two women stood at a counter waiting for customers. They grinned at Kaylie and her group as they passed, waving. > Kaylie returned a nervous look and a slight wave. --- ***More Than One Series*** ***E.A.
